Terms of Service
Last updated: March 10, 2026
Acceptance of terms
By installing or using the Clearmark browser extension ("the Extension") or visiting clearmark.dev ("the Website"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Extension or the Website.
Description of service
Clearmark is a Chrome extension that provides trust scores for websites based on publicly available data. Scores are generated from sources including domain registration records, sanctions databases, terms-of-service ratings, security indicators, and entity data. The Extension displays these scores as you browse the web.
Score accuracy and limitations
Trust scores are generated algorithmically from public data sources and are provided for informational purposes only. You should be aware that:
- Scores may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate. Public data sources can contain errors or lag behind real-world changes.
- A high score does not guarantee a website is safe, legitimate, or trustworthy. A low score does not necessarily mean a website is dangerous or fraudulent.
- Scores are not legal, financial, or security advice. Do not rely solely on Clearmark scores to make decisions about sharing personal information, making purchases, or assessing risk.
- Score methodology may change over time as we improve our algorithms and data sources.
Free tier
The free tier of Clearmark provides basic trust scores, limited flag summaries, and shard-based lookups at no cost. The free tier may be modified, limited, or discontinued at any time without notice.
Premium licenses
Premium features (full dimension breakdowns, entity details, force re-scoring) require a paid license. By purchasing a license, you agree to the following:
- Payments are processed by Freemius, our payment provider. Your payment relationship is with Freemius, and their terms apply to payment processing.
- License keys are personal and may not be shared, resold, or transferred without our written permission.
- Refunds are handled according to Freemius refund policies. Contact support@clearmark.dev for refund requests.
- We reserve the right to revoke licenses that are used in violation of these terms.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Extension or its data to harass, defame, or harm others.
- Scrape, reverse-engineer, or systematically extract data from the Extension or our API.
- Misrepresent Clearmark scores as official security assessments, certifications, or endorsements.
- Attempt to manipulate scores, submit false data, or interfere with the scoring system.
- Use the Extension in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations.
Intellectual property
Clearmark, its logos, scoring methodology, and original content are the property of Clearmark. Trust scores derived from public data sources are provided under the terms of those respective sources. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the Extension without our written permission.
Disclaimer of warranties
The Extension and Website are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not warrant that the Extension will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that scores will be accurate or complete. We disclaim all warranties, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Clearmark and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Extension or Website, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or damages resulting from reliance on trust scores. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Extension in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Termination
You may stop using the Extension at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Extension or revoke your license if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your right to use premium features ceases immediately.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the product evolves. Significant changes will be noted with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Germany.
